Terrestrial Network – Somalia

Expanding Connectivity to Northern Somalia

Since 2006, Djibouti Telecom has been at the forefront of enhancing regional interconnectivity, initiating strategic interconnection projects with key operators in Northern Somalia.

These efforts have resulted in the establishment of four operational microwave networks, providing reliable and high-capacity connectivity to the region. These networks are developed in collaboration with leading Somali operators, Telesom and Somtel, ensuring strong communication links across the borders.

Network Capacity and Growth

Currently, the combined bandwidth provided through Djibouti Telecom’s microwave networks towards these operators totals approximately 30 Gbps, enabling seamless data transmission and ensuring high-performance connectivity for users. As the demand for digital services continues to grow across Somalia, Djibouti Telecom remains dedicated to continually expanding this bandwidth to meet the evolving needs of businesses and consumers alike.

Fiber Optic Connection

In addition to microwave networks, Djibouti Telecom has further strengthened its connectivity to Northern Somalia through its partnership with Somcable, utilizing a robust 100 Gbps fiber optic connection. This state-of-the-art fiber optic infrastructure is designed to deliver ultra-fast, high-capacity services, significantly enhancing the resilience and scalability of the network. By leveraging fiber optics, Djibouti Telecom ensures that the region can accommodate future growth and the increasing demand for data-driven services.

Commitment to the Future

Djibouti Telecom’s commitment to building reliable and scalable networks in Northern Somalia reflects its long-term vision of being the region’s telecommunications hub. By investing in cutting-edge technologies and expanding partnerships with regional operators, Djibouti Telecom is empowering local communities and driving the digital transformation across the Horn of Africa.
