The 9th Smart Africa Board Meeting was held virtually on Monday 7th December 2020 and chaired by H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda. It was probably one of the most important meetings after a difficult year for the global economy and a great quote summed up the sentiment:
SMART Africa is a bold and innovative commitment from African Heads of State and Government to accelerate sustainable socioeconomic development on the continent, ushering Africa into a knowledge economy through affordable access to Broadband and usage of Information and Communications Technologies. Djibouti is a member state and aligned with Djibouti Telecom’s strategy goal and vision of becoming the Telecom Hub of East Africa.
Our President H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh also spoke at the event and reinforced the key message that Africa need to leverage latest “technology to anticipate the needs of the future“.
The event saw another landmark with Mauritania officially joining and becoming the 31st member state of Smart Africa, bringing the representative market to around 750 million people.
Over the coming months and years there will be a series of projects & activities aimed at accelerating the continent’s digital transformation and we will provide regular updates on how Djibouti Telecom will be supporting the over-arching goal of “Transforming Africa into a Single Digital Market”.
