SEACOM has successfully upgraded its submarine cable system, increasing its total capacity to 1.5Tbps. This recent upgrade adds 500G of capacity to the SEACOM network, following a similar 500G enhancement completed 18 months prior. The expansion aligns with SEACOM’s mission to advance internet development across Africa and enhance broadband access for service providers and businesses.
This latest upgrade boosts capacity in SEACOM’s key markets, including Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa. Leveraging 100Gbps Coherent DWDM technology, SEACOM can now respond swiftly to high-capacity connectivity needs, with room for future expansion as demand grows.
“Connectivity services in Africa are growing rapidly, driven by increasing business IT needs, the rise of cloud services, and expanding data processing requirements,” explains Claes Segelberg, Chief Technology Officer at SEACOM. “This upgrade allows us to meet those needs while providing scalable solutions for the future.”
