Africa-1

The Africa-1 submarine cable system spans 10,000 km, connecting Africa with the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia. It is designed to enhance internet capacity and improve communications between key regions, with initial landings in Kenya, Djibouti, Pakistan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and France. The cable also extends to other Mediterranean countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, and Italy.

Featuring 8 fiber pairs and advanced ASN 1620 Softnode technology, Africa-1 will support data transmission rates of up to 400Gbps. Led by a consortium that includes Etisalat, G42, Mobily, Pakistan Telecommunication Company, and Telecom Egypt, the system is expected to be ready for service by 2025, strengthening Africa’s digital infrastructure.
