The Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) Consortium has successfully completed a major upgrade using Infinera’s ICE4 technology, doubling the capacity of its subsea network that connects East Asia to Europe via Egypt. This enhancement not only boosts network capacity but also reduces total cost of ownership while improving service agility and reliability.
The AAE-1 cable system, spanning 25,000 kilometers, offers unique connectivity by terminating at two points of presence in Singapore and extending further into Asia through diverse terrestrial routes across Thailand. This distinctive routing provides one of the lowest-latency connections between Hong Kong, India, the Middle East, and Europe.
Infinera’s fourth-generation Infinite Capacity Engine (ICE4) solution, chosen for this upgrade, delivers advanced features such as high spectral efficiency, Nyquist subcarriers, and Smart Optimize, alongside extended C-band open line system crossings. These capabilities ensure that AAE-1 is equipped to handle next-generation services, including Instant Bandwidth functionality, which allows for the remote activation of additional network capacity.
This upgrade not only strengthens AAE-1’s global connectivity but also positions consortium members, including Djibouti Telecom, to better serve the growing demands of international communications across multiple continents.
