DARE1 (Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1) is Djibouti Telecom’s regional subsea cable that links key hubs on the Horn of Africa to the wider world. Designed to deliver high-capacity, low-latency and resilient connectivity, the system strengthens regional integration and supports the growth of cloud, content and digital services.

What’s Next: DARE1 Southward Extension
Building on the success of DARE1, Djibouti Telecom plans to extend the system along Africa’s east coast to broaden reach and enhance route diversity.
New Planned Landings:
- Tanzania
- Mozambique
- Madagascar
- South Africa
Integration & Design:
- All new segments will interconnect at the Mombasa (Nyali) trunk station for seamless service across existing and new routes.
- Estimated new route length (Mombasa–Durban): 3,200–3,500 km.
Timeline:
- Project start: 2026
- Target ready-for-service: 2028

Why it Matters
