The 2Africa subsea cable project marked a major milestone with its first cable landing in Genoa, Italy. This landing sets the pace for several others planned in the coming months, as the cable system expands to cover a total of 46 locations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. With a target completion date in 2024, the 2Africa project is one of the largest and most ambitious subsea cable projects globally.
The Genoa landing highlights the collaborative efforts of Vodafone, which is serving as the 2Africa landing party in the region. In partnership with Equinix, the cable was successfully landed directly into the Equinix Carrier Neutral Data Center (CNDC), ensuring high-performance interconnection for a broad range of services. Retelit, another key player in the project, has been responsible for the fronthaul, helping to connect the cable from the landing site to the CNDC, further facilitating seamless connectivity.
This first successful landing in Genoa demonstrates the scale and capability of the 2Africa project, bringing us closer to the goal of boosting global connectivity and delivering enhanced internet access across multiple continents.
