Terrestrial Networks: Expanding Regional Connectivity
Djibouti Telecom’s commitment to regional development and strategic positioning has led to the expansion of a robust terrestrial network, connecting Djibouti to its neighboring countries. Through these connections, Djibouti Telecom plays a pivotal role in facilitating international communications across the Horn of Africa.
Networks to Somalia (Northern Somalia)
Since 2006, Djibouti Telecom has actively worked to enhance interconnectivity with operators in Northern Somalia. As a result, four microwave networks have been successfully established, providing seamless communications through partnerships with key operators like Telesom and Somtel.
Networks to Ethiopia
Recognizing the growing demand for reliable connectivity, Djibouti Telecom embarked on a project in August 2007 to build a terrestrial fiber optic link between Djibouti and Ethiopia. This new infrastructure replaced the older radio-relay network, offering significantly greater capacity to handle the increasing volume of traffic to and from Ethiopia.
