As we bid farewell to another remarkable year, Djibouti Telecom is delighted to share the strides made in 2023 and provide a glimpse into our exciting plans for 2024. The International Business division has been at the forefront, achieving significant milestones that underscore our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and enhancing telecommunications infrastructure.
2023 Highlights:
Launch of the New RAS-DIKA Cable Landing Station:
In the middle of the year, we proudly announced the operational launch of our third Cable Landing Station in Djibouti — the RAS-DIKA CLS. This neutral digital port provides open access to submarine cable operators, ensuring a neutral, safe, and secure landing in Djibouti City. The state-of-the-art building, spanning three floors, boasts 250 square meter equipment rooms equipped with the latest technology.
IEX Cable Landing:
As the year concluded, we achieved a key milestone with the landing of the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) submarine cable in Djibouti City. Developed by Reliance Jio Infocomm, the IEX connects Mumbai to Europe and interconnects with the India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) in Mumbai, extending its reach to Singapore. This addition contributes to our expanding network of eight operational submarine cable systems.
Increased Connectivity & Partnerships:
Throughout the year, we dedicated substantial efforts to enhance connectivity and strengthen partnerships. Notably, we fortified our collaboration with key partners, EthioTelecom and Safaricom, in neighboring Ethiopia. These partnerships exemplify Djibouti Telecom’s commitment to industry innovation and collaboration.
Expansion and Densification of Mobile Networks:
The capital witnessed the activation of approximately 15 new mobile network sites, built to modern standards. These sites are a part of our ongoing initiative to elevate telecommunication infrastructure within Djibouti, offering improved connectivity for our Internet Data customers.
Attendance at Major Industry Events:
Remaining at the forefront of industry advancements, our team actively participated in major events such as ITW, ITW Africa, Submarine Networks World, AfricaCom 2023, and Capacity Middle East 2023. This engagement ensures that we stay connected, informed, and aligned with the latest innovations and practices in the telecommunications sector.
Increased Collaboration & Knowledge Exchange:
In addition to event participation, Djibouti Telecom hosted various forums and workshops, fostering an exchange of experiences and expertise within the sector. A notable event was the collaborative working meeting with a distinguished delegation from Mozambique in December, emphasising knowledge exchange, progress evaluation, and future collaboration objectives.
